Carnival Corp. to build $65 million cruise port in Dominican Republic

Carnival Corporation & Plc has signed an agreement with a Dominican joint venture partner – the Rannik family – to construct a cruise ship terminal at Maimon Bay, Dominican Republic, just west of Puerto Plata. 

The terminal will accommodate two post-Panamax size cruise ships, the Miami-based global cruise operator said in a recent statement.

The Maimon Bay project will also include an adjacent retail, dining and recreation complex and transportation hub.  

Carnival Corp will provide financing for the project, which is expected to cost approximately $65 million.  

The new cruise terminal is slated to be completed by fall 2013 pending finalization of all necessary plans and permits, the cruise operator said. 

Additional details will be released at a later date.

Carnival Corp is a global cruise operator and vacation company whose brands include Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America, Princess Cruises among others.
